ASUS is a technology leader that is also leading when it comes to sustainability. This is particularly true with laptops and workstations. This article delves into the eco-friendly attributes of ASUS devices.
The ASUS commitment to sustainability is evident in the selection of materials used in devices. For example, the ASUS Zenbook A14 features parts made of recycled materials, including a chassis cover, bottom case, and keyboard frame made of 90% post-industrial recycled aluminum, as well as keycaps made with 50% ocean-bound and post-consumer-recycled plastics, and speakers made of 50% post-consumer recycled plastics.
The all-metal chassis is built using sustainable materials while ensuring durability and longevity. The laptop's lid undergoes a plasma ceramic aluminum process, transforming its surface without the need for organic compounds, strong acids, or heavy metals.
In addition, the ASUS Zenbook A14 utilizes FSC™-certified materials in its packaging, and no plastic or glue is used.
Alternatively, the ProArt PA602 Wood Edition E-ATX case is a work of art crafted from FSC™-certified durable ash wood. The wood undergoes a meticulous six-stage process, including thermowood treatment, to enhance its durability against insects, humidity, and heat. This not only provides a unique and elegant look but also promotes eco-friendly practices by utilizing responsibly sourced materials.
Energy efficiency is an important aspect of sustainability. ASUS designs devices that deliver top-tier performance while consuming minimal power.
Equipped with the latest Snapdragon® X Series processor and a long-lasting 70 watt-hour battery with multi-working-day battery life, the ASUS Zenbook A14 offers both power and energy efficiency 43% higher than ENERGY STAR® standards. Its AI-enhanced multitasking capabilities allow users to handle tasks seamlessly, all while maintaining low power consumption. Additionally, the USB-C Easy Charge feature ensures quick and convenient recharging.
The ASUS ExpertBook P5 is another example of the ASUS commitment to sustainability. As one of the first TCO Certified Generation 10 products, this laptop is designed to reduce environmental impact across the product lifecycle. The certification highlights climate initiatives set by ASUS, including a self-imposed mandate requiring assembly facilities to utilize 15% renewable energy by 2025 and actively assisting suppliers in reducing carbon emissions. The laptop uses more sustainable materials, such as recycled metals and plastics, accounting for 11% of the total materials, as well as feature zero-plastic packaging and 100% recycled paper. In addition, ASUS products carrying the TCO Certified designation are long-lasting, with a minimum of five years use time. The company also has a whole framework in place that helps users properly dispose of the products, facilitating repair and recycling of old devices. There are also plans to introduce digital product passports. Also aligning with the TCO Certified designation requirements, environmentally-friendly alternatives to flame retardants, plasticizers, and stabilizers are used. ExpertBook P5 is also an extremely energy-efficient laptop, exceeding the ENERGY STAR® certification requirements by 56%. These measures ensure that the ASUS ExpertBook P5 not only operates efficiently but also contributes to a reduced environmental footprint throughout its lifecycle.
ASUS is proud to have a vast number of products validated with esteemed eco-labels and certifications. Below are a few examples of the labels and certifications earned by ASUS products.
The TCO Certified, generation 10, designation earned by the ExpertBook P5 underscores a commitment to sustainability. Products meeting comprehensive criteria in areas such as environmental impact, social responsibility, and product longevity carry the TCO Certified designation. By obtaining TCO Certified designation, ASUS products demonstrate the company’s dedication to integrating sustainability into every facet of product development and manufacturing. The ProArt PA602 Wood Edition's use of FSC™-certified ash wood and the use of FSC™-certified paper in the packaging of the ASUS Zenbook A14 signify responsible sourcing and sustainable forest management. The whole ASUS Vivobook and ProArt product lines have also used FSC™-certified packaging in 2024. This certification ensures that the wood used in relevant product originates from forests managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable manner. Such practices highlight the ASUS commitment to preserving natural resources while delivering innovative products.
EPEAT® (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) is a globally recognized ecolabel that evalsuates the environmental impact of electronic products throughout their lifecycle—from resource extraction and manufacturing to assembly, usage, and end-of-life disposal. ASUS actively registers laptops and desktop computers as EPEAT registered products.
ENERGY STAR® is a globally recognized certificate for energy efficiency, operated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 1992. Products that earn the ENERGY STAR® label reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. ASUS has adopted many optimized designs to attain higher targets (ENERGY STAR®), such as external power supplies with the highest energy efficiency level on the market, Level VI. We also set the internal specifications of 10% stricter than legal requirements when the product is in the power off status to reduce power consumption.
