Function

ASUS provides a data erasure feature within the Bioses environment. Users can follow simple instructions to erase data from storage devices, including system files, user information, and more. This feature helps improve efficiency when reusing or redeploying machines.

Note:

1. This function performs a full wipe of all data and files. It does not support selectively erasing specific files or blocks. Please confirm this action before proceeding.

2. This item will be hidden in "User Level".

Supported Models:

2. Select "Advanced Settings" or press "F7".(Note: The Bioses configuration interface may vary slightly depending on the model.)

3. Security> Media Sanitization.

4. Select the storage device to be erased.

5. Choose the sanitization Method Type (Currently available: Clear or Purge, Default method type: Clear).

Clear: applies logical techniques to sanitize data in all user-addressable storage locationss through the standard Read and Write commands to the storage device.
Purge: applies physical or logical techniques that render Target Data recovery infeasible using state of the art laboratory techniques.

6. Once select purge method, the supported command type for this drive will be shown as below. (For clear method, no command type to choose)

This sub-menu shows the supported sanitize command of this drive. (Default is None)

Sanitize:The specific sanitize command of each kind of drive for purge technique.
Format:Only Nvme drive support this format command.

11. If the process fails, try these troubleshooting steps:

1) Switch to a different method type or Command type in purge type.

2) Re-run the original option.

If the issue continues, test the hard drive in "System Diagnostics" to confirm that the hardware is working properly.

The Media Sanitization function meets the guideline NIST 800-88. It is a document issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the United States. It aims to provide a standardized, secure, and reliable set of data sanitization methods. You can also refer here for more information.
